How Pros Will Benefit From GE Appliances’ Investment in U.S. Water Heater Manufacturing

If you’ve dealt with backorders, delayed installs or unhappy customers over the past few years, you’ve felt the impact of a stretched global supply chain firsthand. From parts shortages to shipping delays, the industry has felt the sting of a globalized, distant manufacturing model.

At GE Appliances Air & Water Solutions, we’re changing that narrative. Guided by our Zero Distance strategy – building closer to the contractors and distributors we serve – the better we can support businesses through innovation and real-life solutions.

Through this commitment, we’re not only continuing to invest in U.S. manufacturing, we’re also supporting products that help pros win more sales with homeowners who are increasingly conscious of energy costs.

THE CAMDEN PLANT: EXPANDING CAPABILITIES FOR THE FUTURE

GE Appliances plans to invest over $3 billion through 2030 in U.S. operations, workforce and communities across our network of 11 U.S. plants and microfactories. This includes our Camden, S.C., plant, which has historically been a powerhouse for gas water heater production.

Through a major portion of the ongoing investment in U.S. operations, the Camden plant is growing as a hub for the future of water heating. This facility will expand production capabilities for advanced electric water heating technologies.

What This Investment Means for Your Business:

  • Faster Innovation: Domestic production allows our engineering teams to work hand-in-hand with manufacturing, leading to faster response times for market needs and quality control.

  • Consistent Availability: Investments in U.S. manufacturing help ensure a more responsive and resilient supply of high-demand products.

  • Reliable Logistics: By building in South Carolina, we reduce the lead times that can impact the plumbing and HVAC distribution network.

INVESTMENTS IN PEOPLE, NOT JUST PRODUCTION

Our commitment to Zero Distance extends beyond the assembly line. GE Appliances contributes more than $30 billion annually to the U.S. GDP and supports over 113,000 jobs.

In South Carolina, our operations contribute nearly $400 million to the state’s GDP. However, we know that the facilities are only as good as the people who work inside them and that reliable products only matter if your team knows how to install and service them efficiently. That's why we’re investing heavily in workforce education and trade training with five Air & Water sales training centers across the U.S. Our training centers are designed to ensure that you and your teams have the technical expertise to install and service next-generation systems.
