How GE Appliances and Haier Executed a Massive Manufacturing Facility AHU Retrofit
Project Overview
- Location: GE Appliances Headquarters – Appliance Park, Building AP-1
- Type: Large-scale manufacturing facility (Laundry operations)
- Previous System: None (no HVAC previously installed)
- New System: Haier VRF MRV-5H system
- Indoor Units: 3rd-party air handlers integrated via Haier AHU kits
- Outdoor Units: 104 ODUs across multiple systems. 16 are Dedicated Outside Air System (DOAS)
The Challenge
No system. No comfort. A new standard was needed.
AP-1, one of the major laundry production buildings at Appliance Park, had no air conditioning or heating infrastructure in place. Employees were working through extreme Louisville summers and winters without any temperature control.
“You had people working in hot summers and cold winters with no air conditioning—this was a building that had never had HVAC before. We saw an opportunity to solve that in a better way.”
— Courtney Gardner, GE Appliances Air & Water Solutions
The Solution: A Retrofit Built for Redundancy
With over 2,000+ tons of capacity to cover and zero existing infrastructure, this project was a chance to showcase the flexibility and scale of the MRV-5H VRF system. Using Haier’s AHU kits, the system seamlessly integrated with third-party air handlers already planned for use in the facility.
